Durbanville double for Gimmethegreenlight

8th Sep 2022

Varsfontein Stud’s champion sire Gimmethegreenlight had a good day at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday when his progeny won the first two races on the card.

His three-year-old daughter Gimme’s Lassie was sent off favourite for the first race on Wednesday with that Varsfontein bred filly sent off a 2-1 chance to land the Hollywoodbets Durbanville Welcomes You Maiden Plate (1250m).
Under an inform Keagan De Melo, Gimme’s Lassie produced a fine turn of foot which saw the Candice Bass-Robinson trained filly get up in the closing stages and win by a long neck.

Runner up in her first two starts, Gimme’s Lassie was a R1 100 000 buy from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.

Out of the Fort Wood mare Scandola, and bred on similar lines to G2 winner Hack Green, Gimme’s Lassie is bred on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Fort Wood cross as five graded stakes winners including the exciting Light Speed.

Her champion sire is also responsible for last season’s G3 World Sports Betting Langerman winner Light Speed, who made a tremendous return to racing when he landed the second race at Durbanville on Wednesday.
The Justin Snaith trained colt made it three wins in a row, and three wins from just four starts, when he stayed on too strongly to land Wednesday’s www.tabonline.co.za Graduation Plate (1600m) by nearly half a length, and Light Speed looks destined for bigger and better things.

Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Light Speed is out of the Fort Wood mare Lady In Love.
