The blue blooded Wonderous Climber became Ridgemont Highlands’ outstanding sire Dynasty’s 63rd individual stakes winner when he won the Listed Aquanaut Handicap at Turffontein on Saturday in impressive fashion.
Despite losing considerable ground at the start of Saturday’s, the progressive Wonderous Climber, under Lyle Hewitson, stormed home to land the Listed prize by a neck over the consistent Odd Rob.
In the process, the five-year-old made it win number five, from his last six outings, with Wonderous Climber now having won six times, in total, from 1600-2400 metres.
The gelding, who has earned over R420 000, was bred by Highlands.
The Sean Tarry trained Wonderous Climber, who was sent off the tote favourite, was making it an Aquanaut double for his connections, who had won the 2018 Aquanaut Handicap with Tambalang.
His four times Equus Outstanding Stallion sire Dynasty is enjoying another good season in 2018-2019, with the former Horse Of The Year’s representatives including G1 WSB Fillies Guineas winner Front And Centre, G3 Three Troikas Stakes victress Storm Destiny, G1 Majorca Stakes/G1 Paddock Stakes runner up Lady In Black, and Thanksgiving –who ran second to subsequent impressive G1 winner Hawwaam in the G2 Dingaans.
Dynasty has been represented by a total of 15 G1 winners thus far, notably the Equus Champions Futura, Legislate, Irish Flame, Beach Beauty, Bela-Bela, Lady In Black, Just Sensual and It’s My Turn.
