East Coast Cup glory for Malmoos half-sister

3rd May 2025

Ridgemont’s exciting young stallion Malmoos gained another boost to his stellar female line when his half-sister Mascherina won the Listed The Independent On Saturday Insider East Coast Cup (2000m) at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday.
A four-year-old daughter of Gimmethegreenlight, Mascherina had won four races, including the 2024 Listed Off To Stud Stakes prior to her win on Saturday.

The Peter Muscutt trained filly was given a fine ride by Serino Moodley, with Moodley bringing Mascherina with a late run down the inside of the track to get up and win by just over a length.

Bred and owned by Varsfontein Stud, Mascherina has won five of 14 starts for R528 530.

She is one of seven winners produced by her Listed Spook Express Handicap winning dam Justthewayyouare, a half-sister to top sire Master Of My Fate.

A daughter of Fort Wood and champion Promisefrommyheart, Justthewayyou is also the dam of dual G3 winner Captain Splendid and South African Triple Crown winning sire Malmoos.

The latter, by champion sire Captain Al whose sire sons include the sensational One World, made an impressive start with his first yearlings in 2025.

Malmoos yearlings made up to R1 100 000 at the Summer Sale, while the Ridgemont resident had members of his first crop make up to R1 400 000 at the 2025 National Yearling sale.
