Vercingetorix gelding lands Drill Hall Stakes

3rd May 2025

Fresh off a feature race treble at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday, Maine Chance Farms’ outstanding sire Vercingetorix had yet more black type success at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.
Vercingetorix’s five-year-old son Gladatorian showed his class when accounting for a high-class field when victorious in Saturday’s G2 Independent On Saturday Drill Stakes (1400m).
Winner of the 2023 G2 Post Merchants, the Stuart Ferrie made amends for a third place finish in last year’s Drill Hall Stakes with a courageous win on Saturday.

Under Sean Veale, Gladatorian stuck his head down where it mattered most to hold off dual G1 winner See It Again and win by a short-head.
Bred by Erasmus Thoroughbreds  CC, Gladatorian, who has won or finished second or third in eight black type races, has won nine of 24 starts.

The gelding, who is out of the Dynasty mare Harvard Crimson, was a R400 000 buy from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.

His sire Vercingetorix, set to be crowned South Africa’s Champion Sire in 2024-2025, went close to enjoying yet more feature race success on Saturday with his G2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas winning daughter Spumante Dolce running second in Saturday’s G2 World Sports Betting Fillies Guineas.
