Maine Chance Farms’ red hot resident sire Vercingetorix was responsible for an eighth individual first crop winner when his 2yo daughter Mai Tai made a winning debut at Greyville on Sunday.
Bred by Maine Chance Farms, the Wayne Badenhorst trained filly stayed on strongly to win first time out by 0.3 of a length over 1200 metres.

It was a game performance from Mai Tai, who had been a R80 000 buy from the 2018 National Two Year Old Sale.

Her multiple G1 winning sire Vercingetorix is currently South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire, by individual winners, with the Silvano son’s previous winners including Viking Moon and Hooves Of Troy –the first two home in last Friday’s Listed East Cape Nursery.

At the time of writing, Vercingetorix has had 17 first crop runners, of which 10 have either won or finished in the money.
The former Equus Champion is set to be represented by both African Warrior and Padre Pio in Friday evening’s G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes.

One of more than 20 G1 winners sired by multiple champion sire Silvano, Vercingetorix had a memorable recent National Yearling Sale where his yearlings made up to R1 000 000.
