Fresh off another excellent season, Black Swan Stud’s triple G1 winning stallion Elusive Fort enjoyed yet more big race success when his two-year-old son Swing Upon A Star ran out a courageous winner of Saturday’s G2 Epol Umkhomazi Stakes (1200m) run at Hollywoodbets Greyville.
Trained by Paul Peter, who has enjoyed so much success with the progeny of Elusive Fort, Swing Upon A Star was given a superb ride by newly crowned champion jockey Warren Kennedy.
Kennedy was quick to take Swing Upon A Star to the front, and the pair kicked clear in the closing stages, only for Sun Blushed to launch a strong challenge down the outside. The pair flashed past the post as one, with Swing Upon A Star declared the winner of the 2022 Umkhomazi Stakes.
Bred by Narrow Creek Stud, Swing Upon A Star, who ran third over 1600m last time out, has now won twice from five starts.
One of three two-year-old winners for his sire this season (Elusive Fort’s juveniles in 2021-2022 also include BSA Sales Cup third place getter Kill Shot), Swing Upon A Star is out of the Judpot mare Eliza Doolittle.
He is the 17th stakes winner for Elusive Fort, whose other flagbearers this season include G1 WSB Cape Town Met winner Kommetdieding and fellow graded stakes winners Big Burn and Sprinkles.
