Querari filly lands Debutante Stakes

30th Jul 2022

Maine Chance Farms’ prominent stallion Querari, South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2Yos for 2021-2022, came up with his 31st stakes winner when his two-year-old daughter Gobsmacked justified tote favouritism to land Saturday’s G2 Prosport International Debutante presented by Gagasi FM (1200m) at Hollywoodbets Greyville.

In the process, the unbeaten Gobsmacked became the third daughter of Querari following Cosmic Light (2015) and Maryah (2021) to land the Debutante Stakes.

An impressive winner of her only two previous starts, the Johan Janse Van Vuuren trained Gobsmacked was sent off 18-10 tote favourite for the R200 000 Debutante.
Under Keagan De Melo, Gobsmacked was well away and wasted no time in getting to the front.

From there, Gobsmacked kept finding more, and stayed on gamely to win by nearly half a length.

Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Gobsmacked, now unbeaten in three starts, is out of the Shamardal mare Bold Nimph.

A half-sister to G1 Allan Robertson Championship winner Mighty High, Gobsmacked is one of four stakes winners to have emerged from Querari’s current crop of two-year-olds. (Querari went close to enjoying more success with his two-year-olds on Saturday when sons Quantum Theory and Prophet finished third and fourth respectively in the G1 Premiers Champion Stakes).

South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2Yos in 2018-2019, Querari has 12 lots on offer at the August Two Year Old Sale.
