Maine Chance Farms’ four time South African champion sire Silvano had another tremendous day at Turffontein on Saturday.

Not only did the champion’s unbeaten daughter Summer Pudding win the G2 Wilgerbosdrift SA Oaks to become only the third filly to sweep South Africa’s Triple Tiara, but Silvano’s champion son Hawwaam showed his class when romping home to a facile win in Saturday’s G1 H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes on the same day.
Last season’s Equus Champion 3YO Colt, Hawwaam made it win number nine, from just 12 starts, when claiming Saturday’s first prize of R255 000 by 1.4 lengths under jockey Callan Murray.
The four-year-old Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred colt has now seven graded triumphs to his name, with Hawwaam landing all of the G1 SA Classic, G1 Premier’s Champions Challenge, G1 Daily News 2000, G2 Dingaans and G3 Tony Ruffel Stakes, and the G2 Premier Trophy this season.
Out of the Jet Master mare Halfway To Heaven, the Mike de Kock trained Hawwaam has earned R6 514 775.
The champion, just once out of the money in 12 starts, is bred on the same Silvano/Jet Master cross as fellow G1 winners Kilindini and Silvano’s Pride.
South Africa’s reigning champion sire, Silvano has been responsible for nine individual black type
winners in this country in 2019-2020 thus far.
