Highlands Stud part of Ridgemont’s well performed new stallion Canford Cliffs had an impressive debut winner at Ripon on Wednesday.
His 3yo daughter Queens Gift won first time out over six furlongs for trainer Michael Dods and jockey Connor Beasley.
Queens Gift, who was produced by the Kingmambo mare Jawaaneb, hit the front with a furlong left to run and stayed on well to score a two length debut win.
She is a daughter of five time G1 winner Canford Cliffs, who, remarkably, won group races at Royal Ascot for three years running.
Since retiring to stud, the son of Tagula has been responsible for a host of high-class stakes winners, notably group winners Cliff’s Edge, Al Jazi, Painted Cliffs and Most Beautiful, as well as recent G1 Investec Coronation Cup second Salouen.
Canford Cliffs’ handful of South African runners include G3 Three Troikas Stakes winner Fish River and East Cape Derby hero Dorset Noble. Another local runner, Clifton Sunset, has been entered for the upcoming Listed East Cape Breeders Stakes over 1200 metres.
Canford Cliffs stands his first season at Highlands in 2018.
