Ridgemont Highlands’ outstanding sire Rafeef had a notable feature race double over the weekend, with Rafeef’s two-year-olds excelling at both Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Saturday and at Kenilworth racecourse on Sunday.

On Saturday, not only did Rafeef’s son Thunderstruck run out an impressive winner of the G1 Gold Medallion but Rafeef’s promising daughter Glittering Girl caught the eye when finishing a close up second in the G1 Allan Robertson Championship at Scottsville.
The following day, Rafeef’s hugely promising daughter Who Do You Love confirmed herself as a filly out of the top drawer when downing some highly regarde fillies to land Sunday’s Listed TAB Perfect Promise Sprint at Kenilworth.
Promising two-year-old Thunderstruck made it two wins from three starts when running out a near three length winner of Saturday’s G1 Gold Medallion at Scottsville to become his sire’s third G1 winner from Rafeef’s first two crops.
Bred by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm, Thunderstruck (bred on the same Rafeef/Var cross as this season’s G1 Computaform Sprint winner Master Archie) drew clear, under Calvin Habib, to land the 2022 Gold Medallion in impressive fashion.
One of two G1 winners on Saturday for trainer Sean Tarry, Thunderstruck, third on debut before romping home to break his maiden by four and a half lengths, was a R1 000 000 buy from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.
The colt is out of the Var mare Varikate -whose five wins included a score in the G2 Post Merchants.
South Africa’s Leading Second Season Sire of 2021-2022, Rafeef is also the sire of Sunday’s eye catching Perfect Promise Sprint winner Who Do You Love.
Now unbeaten in three starts, the Candice Bass-Robinson trained two-year-old powered away, under Aldo Domeyer, to land the 2022 Perfect Promise Sprint by a length and a quarter.
Bred by Narrow Creek Stud, Who Do You Love was a R200 000 purchase from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.
The filly is out of the winning Model Man mare Fair Enough -also dam of G2 KRA Fillies Guineas heroine Maybe Yes.
