Maine Chance Farms’ prominent sire Vercingetorix extended his lead at the top of the South African General Sires List when supplying a pair of Listed winners at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Friday evening.

Vercingetorix came up with his 18th stakes winner when his Duncan Howells trained daughter Lyrical Dance won Friday’s Listed World Sports Betting Scarlet Lady over 1800 metres.
Under Muzi Yeni, the four-year-old made all to score by half a length, with Lyrical Dance taking her tally of wins to four with her first feature race success.

Bred by Maine Chance Farms, the regally bred Lyrical Dance, third in the G3 Flamboyant Stakes two starts back, is out of Jallad’s G1 Garden Province Stakes winning daughter Lyrical Linda.

Vercingetorix’s second Listed success on Friday came when his Dean Kannemeyer trained son Mount Anderson captured the Listed World Sports Betting Sledgehammer run over 1800 metres.
Under Keagan De Melo, the gelded five-year-old raced mid-field for much of Friday’s contest, before finding a split close home and sweeping home to score by nearly two lengths.

Out of Al Mufti’s G1 Golden Slipper winning daughter Gilded Minaret, Mount Anderson has now won five of his 20 starts, with his previous triumphs including the 2020 Listed Christmas Handicap.

His outstanding sire Vercingetorix, currently the leading sire in South Africa by stakes for 2021-2022, has no fewer than four offspring nominated for the 2022 G1 Hollywoodbets Durban July -Nebraas, Astrix, Lyrical Dance, and Pomp And Power.
