Ridgemont Highlands’ high-class sire Canford Cliffs has made a fine start to his South African stud career, and the five time G1 winner made headlines once again on Friday when his promising son Cliff Top captured the Listed East Cape Nursery (1200m) at Fairview racecourse.
In the process, the Ridgemont Highlands bred colt made it two wins from four starts, with Cliff Top having also triumphed in the Listed City Of Cape Town Summer Juvenile Stakes earlier this season.

Under Greg Cheyne, the Alan Greeff trained two-year-old burst clear late on and powered away to lift the spoils in Friday’s Nursery by a length and a quarter.

Out of the Western Winter mare Baqueria, Cliff Top looks likely now to be aimed at the G1 Gold Medallion later this season.

His Irish 2000 Guineas winning sire Canford Cliffs has made a smashing start with his first locally bred runners racing this season, with the son of Tagula currently ranking as the Leading First Season Sire in South Africa for 2021-2022.

Already sire of 21 stakes winners, Canford Cliffs has four lots on offer at the upcoming National Yearling Sale -including a colt (Lot 209) out of G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic/G2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas winner Takingthepeace.
