Fresh off his G1 winning son Chimichuri Run scoring an impressive win at Turffontein, Drakenstein Stud’s leading sire Trippi was again to the fore at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.

This time, it was Trippi’s son Guru’s Pride who made news, when the four-year-old gelding scored a thrilling victory in Sunday’s Fever Tree Stakes (Non-Black Type) (1500m).

Under Warren Kennedy, the Gavin Van Zy trained Guru’s Pride powered home to get up in the shadow of the post and win the 2021 Fever Tree Stakes by a neck.

Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Guru’s Pride has now won six of 15 starts, with the gelding’s previous triumphs including the 2020 Listed New Turf Carriers Darley Arabian.

One of 80 stakes winners for Trippi, Guru’s Pride was produced by the General Nediym mare Generous Anna.

His sire Trippi, South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2015-2016, has had another good season in 2020-2021 thus far, with Trippi’s leading representatives this season headed by G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner Jet Dark and fellow graded stakes winners Crome Yellow and Mombela.

The broodmare sire of rising star US sires Liam’s Map and Not This Time, Trippi has a single lot on the upcoming Cape Yearling Sale, and three lots on the Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
