Fifth first crop winner for Lancaster Bomber

19th April 2023

The premature death of Lancaster Bomber looks to have been a notable setback for the South African breeding industry, and the late son of War Front struck yet again when his first-crop son Paratrooper made a winning debut at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Wednesday.
Trained by Vaughan Marshall, two-year-old Paratrooper was always up with the pace in Wednesday’s Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Welcomes You Juvenile Plate (1100m), and he showed good resolution in the running of the race.
Under Craig Zackey, Paratrooper edged ahead of more experienced stablemate Dumbledore close home and got up to make a winning debut with a long neck victory.
Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, Paratrooper is out of the Western Winter mare Path To Travel.
The colt is bred on the same cross as his sire’s stakes-winning daughter Rascova.
Paratrooper joins the likes of Listed City Of Cape Town Summer Juvenile Stakes heroine Rascova, impressive debut winner Guy Gibson and Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery runner-up Siddeley as early winners for Lancaster Bomber.

The latter is South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire for 2022-2023 and is above Vercingetorix, Rafeef and Var on the Leading Sires of 2YOs premiership for the current season.
Winner of the G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup, Lancaster Bomber has a cracking draft on offer at this week’s National Yearling Sale, including a filly (Lot 86) out of G1 SA Fillies Classic winner Siren’s Call, a colt (Lot 217) out of G1 Golden Slipper heroine Chestnuts N Pearls, and a half-brother (Lot to G1 SA Derby victor Hero’s Honour.
