Varsfontein Stud’s leading sire Gimmethegreenlight is on track to be named South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2022-2023 and the son of More Than Ready’s fine season continued at the Vaal on Thursday when his son Ready To Charge made an impressive winning debut.
A two-year-old trained by Michael and Adam Azzie, Ready To Charge was backed down from 10-1 into 4-1 for Thursday’s 4Racing Welcomes You Maiden Juvenile Plate (1100m) and duly lived up to the support.
Under JP Van Der Merwe, the Gimmethegreenlight colt hit the front someway from home and powered away to win convincingly by two and three-quarter lengths.
Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Ready To Charge is out of the Charge Forward mare San Fermin.
The colt is one of six two-year-old winners this season for his champion sire, with Gimmethegreenlight South Africa’s second Leading Sire of 2YOs by stakes earned at the time of writing.
South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2020-2021, Gimmethegreenlight’s current flagbearers include G1 Pongracz Cape Flying Championship winner Gimme A Prince and G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic queen Bless My Stars as well as the first three home in this season’s G3 Protea Stakes.
