Maine Chance Farms’ red hot sire Querari was the toast of Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.
The son of Oasis Dream was responsible for a pair of winners at Hollywoodbets Greyville, with his top-class son Star Major landing Saturday’s G1 Daily News 2000 (2000m) in smart style.
In the process, three-year-old Star Major became the fifth G1 winner for Querari.
A first South African G1 winner for jockey Mickaelle Michel, Star Major also provided his trainer James Crawford with his initial top-level success since going solo as a trainer.
The progressive Star Major came into Saturday’s R2 000 000 off a win in the G2 World Sports Betting Guineas and made it a feature race double (the colt had won the G3 HKJC World Pool Politician Stakes earlier in the season) on Saturday.
Dropped out from a wide draw, Star Major raced well off the pace early on before storming down the outside of the track to get up and win by a length and a half.
Bred by Maine Chance Farms (also the breeders’ of Wish List), Star Major races for Neville Isdell, Jonathan Bloch, Mrs Prakashni Pillay & Kalinga.
Star Major, who has won four of 11 starts, is out of the Silvano mare Star In The Sky, and is thus bred on the same cross as fellow G1 winners Bavarian Beauty and Cosmic Speed.
The Querari colt was a R500 000 buy from the 2024 National Yearling Sale.
His sire is also responsible for Quandura, who won the second race at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.
Querari’s outstanding sire Oasis Dream has been retired from stud duties, with Oasis Dream having sired more than 140 stakes winners. Of stallions still active in Britain, Juddmonte report that only Frankel and Dubawi have sired more Group winners.
