First runner for Buffalo Bill Cody

10th January 2024

Wilgerbosdrift’s well-bred young sire Buffalo Bill Cody is set to have his first runner at the Vaal on Tuesday January 16th. His two-year-old son Pistol Pete will make his debut for Tony Peter when lining up in the TAB Telebet 0861 000 822 Maiden Juvenile Plate.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Pistol Pete is out of the Tiger Ridge mare Oklahoma Sky.
The colt was an R380 000 purchase from the 2023 Cape Yearling Sale.
His sire Buffalo Bill Cody was a high-class performer who won six of ten starts, and six of his first seven starts.
Buffalo Bill Cody is a son of triple champion Australian sire Redoute’s Choice, whose other sire sons include four times Australian champion sire Snitzel, the hugely successful Not A Single Doubt and top South African sire Rafeef.
Another son of Redoute’s Choice, Alabama Express, is currently the Leading First Season Sire in Australia for 2023-2024, while Redoute’s Choice also ranks as the broodmare sire of prominent Australian sire Zoustar.
A half-brother to G3 Transylvania Stakes winner Chattahoochee War, Buffalo Bill Cody is out of G3 Reeve Schley Jr Stakes winner Buffalo Berry, a granddaughter of G1 Matron/G1 Spinaway Stakes winner Prayers ‘N Promises.
Further back, this is the family of top US stallion Hard Spun and champions Chateaugay, Improbable and Little Current.
