Ridgemont’s blue blooded young stallion Malmoos came up with his first winner when Malmoos filly Marchland made a winning debut at Fairview on Friday.
A two-year-old from her sire’s first crop, the Kelly Mitchley trained Marchland made a big impression when she won Friday’s Welcome To Nelson Mandela Bay Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1200m).

Under Muzi Yeni, Marchland pulled well clear of her chasing rivals to run out an impressive five and a half length winner on debut.

Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, Friday’s winner is owned by Mervin Govender.

Marchland, who is out of the Western Winter mare Marcheline, was a R450 000 buy from the 2025 Premier Yearling Sale. The filly has a Querari half-brother on offer at the upcoming Premier Sale.

She is the first winner for her well performed sire Malmoos, himself a son of champion sire Captain Al.
Malmoos, himself a R4 400 000 buy from the 2019 National Yearling Sale, won seven of 12 starts, with his victories including the clean sweep of the 2021 Triple Crown.
Malmoos’ five graded stakes wins took in triumphs in all of the G1 World Sports Betting SA Derby, G1 World Sports Betting SA Classic, G2 World Sports Betting Gauteng Guineas, G2 Avontuur Estate Concorde Cup and G3 Palacebet.co.za Live Games Graham Beck Stakes.

Bred on the same Captain Al/Fort Wood cross as fellow G1 winners Captain America and William Longsword, Malmoos is out of Listed Spook Express Handicap winner Justthewayyouare.
A half-sister to top-class South African sire Master Of My Fate,  Justthewayyouare has produced seven winners including Malmoos’ dual G3 winning full-brother Captain Splendid.
