Multiple champion sire Gimmethegreenlight was responsible for a trio of eye catching winners in South Africa on Saturday.
His sons Prayersandpromises and Warning Light both won at Turffontein on Saturday with Gimmethegreenlight’s blue blooded daughter Peaches And Cream victorious at Hollywoodbets Durbanville.
Two-year-old Prayersandpromises had caught the eye when finishing third on debut and that Gimmethegreenlight duly won on Saturday.
Held in high regard by trainer Sean Tarry, Prayersandpromises dug down deep, under Ryan Munger, to win the #Youcanbetonus! Maiden Juvenile Plate (1160m) by a long neck.
Bred by Blue Sky Thoroughbreds, Prayersandpromises was a R650 000 purchase from the 2025 National Yearling Sale.
Owned by the ASSM Racing Syndicate, Saturday’s winner is out of the Fort Wood mare Awayinthewoods and is thus bred on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Fort Wood cross as graded stakes winners Eye Of The Prophet, Green Pepper, Hack Green, and Second Base.
Gimmethegreenlight is also the sire of the exciting gelding Warning Light. The latter made a big impression when he made a winning debut at Turffontein.
Under Gavin Lerena, the Sean Tarry trained three-year-old raced well off the pace for much of Saturday’s SA Derby 4 April Maiden Plate (1160m) but motored home late and got up to win going away by more than a length and three quarters.
Bred by Drakenstein Stud, the superbly bred Warning Light races for Kestorm Investments.
Out of the top-class racemare Siren’s Call, Warning Light was a R550 000 buy from the 2024 National Yearling Sale.
Gimmethegreenlight also enjoyed success at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday when his three-year-old daughter Peaches And Cream won the Happy Valentines Day From Race Coast Maiden Plate (F and M) (1400m).
The half-sister to champion Double Grand Slam unleashed a fine turn of foot which saw Peaches And Cream storm home to break her maiden by three-parts of a length.
Bred by Varsfontein Stud, the Candice Bass trained filly is owned by Messrs L M Nestadt, Reon Barnard, D D MacLean & Gary Player Stud Farm (Pty) Ltd.
Gimmethegreenlight, whose progeny also includes this season’s G1 L’Ormarins King’s Plate winner The Real Prince, has two lots on offer at the Cape Yearling Sale, and nine lots on offer at the Premier Yearling Sale.
