Ridgemont Highlands’ five time G1 winning stallion Canford Cliffs enjoyed a good day on Friday when the star son of Tagula supplied three winners of the ten races run at Fairview.
Not only did Canford Cliffs son Heathcliff win the 4Racing.TV Derby Plate, another son Cliff Top romped to a decisive win in Friday’s Fairview Flying Five, while yet another son of the Ridgemont Highlands resident, Bournemouth, broke his maiden when landing the third race on Friday’s Fairview card.
All three Canford Cliffs sired winners on Friday are trained by Alan Greeff, with Greeff saddling six winners on the day, while Richard Fourie rode Heathcliff, Bournemouth and Cliff Top to their respective victories.
The Ridgemont Highlands bred Heathcliff put up an impressive display when romping home, from well off the pace, to claim Friday’s 4Racing.TV Derby Plate convincingly. Under a great ride from Fourie, the gelded three-year-old pounced close home and powered home to win as he liked by a length and a half.
Out of the Gitano Hernando mare Whose That Girl, Heathcliff has now won three of 13 starts and three of his last six outings.
Winner of both the Listed City Of Cape Town Summer Juvenile Stakes and Listed East Cape Nursery at two, the Ridgemont Highlands bred Cliff Top showed his class with a superb performance in the 2023 Fairview Flying Five.
The three-year-old turned Friday’s 1000m dash into a one horse-race with Cliff Top romping home to score emphatically by two and a half lengths.
Out of the Western Winter mare Baqueira, Cliff Top has now won five of 14 starts and three of his last five outings. Third in the Listed East Cape Sprint Cup last time out, the gelding has finished out of the money just three times.
One of the best turf milers of the century, Canford Cliffs is also broodmare sire of top-class Australian filly Amelia’s Jewel who finished a bang up second in Saturday’s AUS$4 million TABtouch Quokka. A three-year-old daughter of Siyouni, Amelia’s Jewel is out of the Canford Cliffs mare Bumbasina.
Already sire of more than 20 stakes winners with his progeny having earned more than $36 million in prize money, Canford Cliffs has 11 lots on offer at this week’s National Yearling Sale.
