Wilgerbosdrift’s consistently successful resident sire Flower Alley enjoyed success in Hong Kong on Saturday when his son Apex Top won the first race at Sha Tin.
Trained by Douglas Whyte, the gelding was given a fine ride by Luke Ferraris in Saturday’s Racing For Charity 1400m Handicap.

Ferraris quickly took Apex Top to the front, and the pair stayed on to claim a front running victory, with Apex Top running out a comfortable two length winner of Saturday’s contest.

It was a second Hong Kong win for Apex Top, who was bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein.

Out of the Rich Man’s Gold mare Cosima Liszt, Apex Top was a R550 000 buy from the 2018 National Yearling Sale.

His G1 Travers Stakes winning sire Flower Alley also struck at Turffontein on Saturday with his two-year-old daughter Red Hot Rose claiming the second race on the card.

Bred and owned by Lady O’Reilly, the Mike de Kock trained filly overcame greenness in running to land Saturday’s WSB Spina Wina Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1160m) by a head, with Red Hot Rose having been placed in each of her two previous starts.

Out of the Kahal mare Festival Of Fire, Red Hot Rose is held in some regard by her connections and she looks capable of building on Saturday’s victory.

Flower Alley has had an excellent season again this year with his flagbearers including graded stakes winners Clafoutis, Gilded Butterfly and Princess Calla as well as G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic runner up Feather Boa. The latter finished a close up second in Saturday’s G1 HSH Princess Charlene Empress Club Stakes and has now been second in four graded races.

Flower Alley’s fourth dam Dumfries also ranks as the fifth dam of star US mare Clairiere, winner of Saturday’s G1 Apple Blossom Handicap.

From the same female line as multiple champion sire Lyphard as well as current US sire sensation Gun Runner, Flower Alley has five lots on offer at this week’s National Yearling Sale.
