Drakenstein Stud’s hugely promising young Dynasty sire Futura has made an excellent start to his stud career, and the former Horse Of The Year came up with another smart first crop winner when his three-year-old son Avenir made a winning debut at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday afternoon.

A colt bred by Pippa Mickleburgh,Avenir was well fancied to make a winning debut, with the Ashley Fortune trained colt eventually starting a well backed tote favourite for Wednesday’s second race, a maiden plate over 1400m.
Despite having a rough passage, and suffering interference during the running, Avenir powered home, under Anton Marcus, to win on debut by a short head.
Out of the Var mare Varsity Queen, Avenir was a R500 000 buy from the 2019 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
His four time G1 winning sire Futura has made an excellent start to his stud career, with Futura’s first crop winners headed by G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe winner and G1 Premiers Champion Stakes runner up Nourbese, Champion Juvenile Stakes winner Dindingwe and G2 filly Jasmine.
