Varsfontein Stud’s exciting sire Gimmethegreenlight has made a tremendous start to his stud career, and last season’s Leading First Crop Sire looks to have another tremendous crop of two-year-olds to his credit in 2016-2017.
Gimmethegreenlight was represented by an impressive juvenile winner when his daughter London Secret made a winning debut for champion trainer Sean Tarry at Turffontein on Sunday.
Backed down to 26-10 favouritism, London Secret proved too strong for her more experienced rivals and powered clear to post a 2.3 length first time win over 1160m.
London Secret (from the same family as another promising Varsfontein sire- Master Of My Fate) was sold for R650 000 at last year’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
In addition, the Gimmethegreenlight fillies, Green Plains and Rose In Bloom, added further lustre to their sire’s burgeoning reputation by finishing second in the G1 Allan Robertson Fillies Championship and Listed Kenilworth Fillies Nursery respectively. Another daughter, Light On Her Toes, was fifth in the Allan Robertson.
Green Plains, winner previously of the G2 SA Fillies Nursery and G3 Pretty Polly Stakes, has now earned more than R600 000 in stakes and clearly ranks among the best of her generation, while Rose In Bloom, previously third in the Listed Perfect Promise Sprint , surely is on the verge of tasting feature race success!
Gimmethegreenlight has now been represented by 10 juvenile winners this season.
