Multiple champion sire Gimmethegreenlight came up with an eye catching debut winner on Sunday.
His two-year-old son Green Gateway made the perfect start to his career when he won the first race at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.
Trained by Dean Kannemeyer, Green Gateway was given a fine ride by Gavin Lerena to win Sunday’s Race Coast Maiden Juvenile Plate (1200m).
Lerena bought his mount with a strong challenge, and Green Gateway found more in the closing stages to post a more than three-parts of a length win.
Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Green Gateway was a R2 200 000 buy from the 2024 National Yearling Sale.
Sunday’s winner, who hails from the same family as the Gimmethegreenlight sired stakes winners Cala Muretta, Hack Green, Mascherina and Favorita, is a half-brother to G3 Flamboyant Stakes winner Hashtagyolo and the stakes placed pair of Allez Moris and La Revere (dam of G3 Protea Stakes Karangetang).
Green Gateway is a three-parts brother to this season’s Listed Schweppes Cape Fillies Classic winner Give Me Everything. Green Gateway races for Messrs B D Airey, T Gujadhur & G Ragunan, Mrs N P Malherbe, Fieldspring Racing & Greenacres Trust.
His multiple champion sire Gimmethegreenlight went close to enjoying international big-race success on Sunday, with his champion daughter Gimme A Nother finishing a close up second in the G2 Canadian Stakes Presented by the Japan Racing Association.
Equus Champion 3YO Filly of 2023-2024, Gimme A Nother has finished runner up in three of her four starts in North American graded stakes races.
Gimmethegreenlight has eight lots on offer at the 2025 August Two Year Old Sale.
