South Africa’s reigning champion sire Gimmethegreenlight looks to have another smart sort to his name in the form of promising two-year-old Laguna Verde.
The latter made the perfect start to his racing career when he made an impressive, winning debut at the Vaal on Tuesday.

Trained by Lucky Houdalakis, Laguna Verde was given a patient ride by Craig Zackey in Tuesday’s #ThisIsRacing Welcomes You Maiden Juvenile Plate (1200m).

Zackey kept his mount off the pace early before bringing Laguna Verde with a strong late finish, which saw the first-timer take off in the final stages to win going away by an emphatic three and a quarter lengths.
Bred by Clifton Stud, Laguna Verde was a R600 000 buy from last year’s National Yearling Sale.

Laguna Verde, who is out of the Captain Al mare Copiapo, is bred on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Captain Al cross as G1 winner Gunner and Zimbabwe champion Flanders.

He is the third two-year-old winner for his sire this season thus far.

Gimmethegreenlight is having another fantastic season in 2021-2022, with the son of More Than Ready having been responsible for eight black type winners this season.
