Gimmethegreenlight dominates Fillies Championship

13th Nov 2022

Varsfontein Stud’s champion resident sire Gimmethegreenlight dominated proceedings in the G2 Western Cape Fillies Championship (1400m) at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.
Not only did Gimmethegreenlight’s blue blooded daughter Ciao Bella run out an easy winner of the 2022 Western Cape Fillies Championship, another daughter Gimme’s Lassie ran third.
An impressive winner when making her three-year-old debut recently, the Justin Snaith trained Ciao Bella was duly sent off the 2-1 tote favourite for Saturday’s R400 000 feature, and traditional prep for the Cape Fillies Guineas.

The flashy grey more than lived up to expectations, and bounded clear, under a red-hot Richard Fourie, to land her biggest win to date by three-parts of a length.
Bred and owned by Varsfontein Stud, Ciao Bella has now won three of just five starts to date and she looks hard to beat in the Cape Fillies Guineas this year.
She was one of two winners at Kenilworth on Saturday for Gimmethegreenlight, whose daughter Green Chilli won the fifth race on the card.
Out of Dynasty’s champion daughter Bela-Bela, Ciao Bella, who joins Third Runway as a G2 Western Cape Fillies Championship sired by Gimmethegreenlight, is the 46th stakes winner for Gimmethegreenlight.
The filly is one of a growing number of high-class daughters representing Gimmethegreenlight, with others including G1 Brentford FC Garden Province Stakes winner She’s A Keeper and such notable graded stakes winners as Green Plains, Lady Of Steel, Gimme Dat, Green Pepper, La Bella Mia and Rose In Bloom.
