Gimmethegreenlight dominates Gardenia

16th Nov 2018

Varsfontein Stud’s boom sire Gimmethegreenlight is enjoying a tremendous season in 2018-2019 thus far, and the son of More Than Ready enjoyed more feature race success at Turffontein on Thursday evening.

Rose In Bloom

Gimmethegreenlight fillies Rose In Bloom and Green Plains ran first and third in Thursday night’s Listed Gardenia Stakes, leaving some of Gauteng’s fastest females trailing in their wake.

Trained by Joey Ramsden, 4yo Rose In Bloom stormed home from off the pace to claim victory in the 1000m Gardenia Stakes by a length and a quarter from G3 Tommy Hotspur Handicap winner Wrecking Ball with her paternal half-sister, and favourite, Green Plains, back in third place.

Rose In Bloom took her earnings to R678 213 on Thursday, while fellow Gimmethegreenlight daughter Green Plains, whose previous wins include both the G2 SA Fillies Nursery and G2 Highlands Stud Camellia Stakes, has now banked R992 500 in stakes.

Bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Rose In Bloom has now won or placed in 14 of her 18 races, with her previous victories including the 2017 Listed Highlands Stud Irridescence Stakes. The talented filly has now won or placed in nine graded or listed races, with Rose In Bloom’s previous efforts including a third in the G1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes earlier this year.

Green Plains

Her G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winning sire has now been responsible for three feature race winners in November with Gimmethegreenlight sons National Park and Stream Ahead having won the recent G3 Graham Beck Stakes and Listed KZN Guineas Trial respectively.

South Africa’s Champion First Crop Sire of 2015-2016, Gimmethegreenlight is currently one of South Africa’s leading active sire, by earnings, with his runners having already banked in excess of R2.9 million this season.

Gimmethegreenlight, to whom champion Bela-Bela is in foal, looks likely to add his total soon, with the blue blooded son of More Than Ready well represented in a number of upcoming feature races.
He has two runners in next weekend’s R2.5 million CTS Ready To Run Stakes, two sons entered for the upcoming G2 Dingaans, while daughters Rose In Bloom, Frederico’s Dream, Accidental Tourist and Green Plains are all entered for the G3 Magnolia Handicap in December. (Rose In Bloom also holds entries for the G2 Merchants and G2 Ipi Tombe Challenge).
