Varsfontein Stud’s leading young stallion Gimmethegreenlight, whose son Surcharge was an impressive winner of the G1 Daily News 2000 last Saturday, enjoyed yet more feature race success at Greyville on Saturday.
His sons Barahin and Green Haze ran first and second in the Listed Gatecrasher Stakes, with the Wilgerbosdrift/Mauritzfontein bred Barahin showing his rivals a clean pair of heels to record an emphatic three and a quarter length win in the 1400 metres contest.
Trained by Mike de Kock, Barahin, an easy two length winner of his previous start, has now won two of just three outings and looks a leading contender for the G1 two-year-old races at the end of the season.
Out of the Silvano mare Mocha Special, Barahin was a R2 600 000 purchase from last year’s National Yearling Sale. He was one of 2 juvenile winners for Gimmethegreenlight this past weekend, with the latter’s son National Park scoring a facile victory over 1400m for trainer Yvette Bremner on Friday afternoon.
Other notable Gimmethegreenlight juvenile winners this season are the impressive debut winners Green Haze and Gimme Crystals, and Somerset 1200 third Crown Guardian. His sons Stream Ahead and Sulka have both been entered for the G2 Golden Horseshoe on July day next month.
South Africa’s Champion First Crop Sire of2015-2016, the G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winning son of More Than Ready has an outstanding draft of eight lots on offer at the 2018 KZN Yearling Sale, with his draft including a half-brother to eight time stakes winner Red Flyer (Lot 4), a filly from the family of champions Colonial Girl and Edict Of Nantes (Lot 84), and a colt out of a G3 placed daughter of champion sire and broodmare sire Encosta De Lago (Lot 236).
