One of the nicest colts in the Boland Stud KZN Yearling Sale draft is Lot 117, a colt whose pedigree combines classic influence with precocity and speed. As yet unnamed this bay colt is by Jackson, a triple Gr.1 winning son of four times Equus Outstanding Stallion Dynasty.
Himself a classic winner, Jackson banked over R2 million during a career which saw him win all of the Gr.1 Investec Cape Derby (over dual Horse Of The Year Variety Club), Gr.1 Daily News 2000 and Gr.1 Champions Cup. One of the very best horses of his generation, the impeccably bred Jackson hails from the same family as outstanding US champion sire Smart Strike.
Jackson has made a cracking start with his first 2yos this season, with his first crop winners including G1 contender Beat It and Cape Of Good Hope Nursery third Mr Crumford, as well as debut hero Bonaire and he looks another exciting young South African bred sire to take note of.
His bay son (who is bred on the same cross as Mr Crumford), catalogued as lot 108 in the National Sale catalogue, is out of the very smart Captain’s Lullaby. The latter, a speedy and precocious two-year-old who won five times, up to 1200m, and was runner up in both the Gr.3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery and Listed Perfect Promise Sprint at two.
Captain’s Lullaby is herself impeccably bred being a daughter of champion sire Captain Al she is and half-sister to the Dean Kannemeyer trained Gr3 Byerley Turk hero Mambo Mime, a close second in the recent Listed Jet Master Stakes. Mambo Mime, who previously contested both the Gr1 Vodacom Durban July and Gr1 Sun Met, has already banked in excess of R720 000!
Captain’s Lullaby is also a half-sister to the smart stakes placed five time winner Muamba, herself dam of speedy Gr.2 SA Fillies Nursery third Varumba. The Jackson colt’s second dam, bred in the USA, is the beautifully bred Murmuration –a daughter of leading sire and French Gr.1 winner Miswaki and champion racemare Susurration. Miswaki, whose offspring won such races as the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, Breeders’ Cup Classic and Japan Cup, is a truly exceptional broodmare sire, whose daughters have produced well over 140 stakes winners.
Among the outstanding horses produced by Miswaki mares is the world’s premier sire, and Epsom Derby winner, Galileo and the latter’s outstanding, six time Gr.1 winning half-brother Sea The Stars. Remarkably, both Galileo and Sea The Stars have sired Investec Derby winners! The classically bred Jackson is from the very same family as outstanding sire and broodmare sire Red Ransom. This colt has been bred on a similar cross to the one that produced Gr.1 winners Shadow Dancing, Heir Apparent and Athina.
Captain Al as a broodmare sire has already produced 12 stakes winners including Gr.1 winners Same Jurisdiction, Gunner and Potent Power.
