Gimmethegreenlight dominates Prix Du Cap

26th Feb 2023

Daughters of Varsfontein Stud’s champion sire Gimmethegreenlight dominated the finish to the G3 Splashout Prix Du Cap run at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.
Not only did Gimmethegreenlight four-year-old Live My Life win Saturday’s 1400m feature, Gimmethegreenlight is also the sire of Prix Du Cap third and fourth place finishers Gimme’s Lassie and Gimme Dat.
Under Sean Veale, the Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm bred Live My Life made much of the running to down favourite, and reigning South African Horse Of The Year, Captain’s Ransom by a length and a half, with Gimme’s Lassie another length and three-quarters further back in third spot.

Live My Life provided her retiring trainer Dennis Drier with an emotional final graded success at Kenilworth, and it was a fine training feat indeed, with Live My Life having fractured her pelvis earlier in her career.

Now four time winner from just 11 starts Live My Life was claiming the biggest win of her career on Saturday.
The filly, who is out of the Pure Prize mare Muamba, is the 51st stakes winner for her sire Gimmethegreenlight.
The latter, whose progeny include another Prix Du Cap winner in the form of Rose In Bloom, is having another outstanding year in 2022-2023 with Gimmethegreenlight currently heading the South African General Sires List.
The son of More Than Ready has also made headlines in the sales ring this year, with Gimmethegreenlight responsible for the R3 800 000 Cape Premier Yearling Sales topper.
