Ibhayi Stakes joy for The United States

25th Feb 2023

Moutonshoek’s bang inform resident sire The United States has a stellar crop of three-year-olds this season, and the son of Galileo enjoyed yet more sophomore success on Friday when his son Khaya’s Hope romped to a brilliant win in the Listed Ibhayi Stakes run at Fairview.
An impressive winner of his three previous starts, including the Listed Racehorse Owners Association Stakes, Khaya’s Hope was all the rage for Friday’s 1400m feature for three-year-olds and eventually jumped the 4-10 tote favourite.
Under a confident ride from Keagan De Melo, the Gavin Smith trained gelding hit the front close home and powered away to win as he liked by a length and a half.
Now a winner of his last four in a row, and yet to finish out of the first three from 11 starts, Khaya’s Hope was bred by his owner Khaya Stables.
Khaya’s Hope is out of the Danehill Dancer mare Miss Khaya.
His G1 Ranvet Stakes winning sire The United States is also responsible for this season’s G3 Sea Cottage Stakes winner Billy Bowlegs. The latter is one of two sons of The United States entered in next week’s G1 WSB SA Classic.
From the same female line as champion sire Last Tycoon and last year’s G1 Sun Chariot Stakes winner Fonteyn, among many others, The United States has two colts on offer at tomorrow’s Cape Yearling Sale.
