Varsfontein Stud’s red-hot sire Gimmethegreenlight, whose son Barahin rates a leading chance for Saturday’s G1 Vodacom Durban July, made more headlines at Kenilworth on Saturday when his promising two-year-old daughter Third Runway won the Listed Irridescence Stakes for trainer Glen Kotzen and jockey Morne Winaar.

Bred by Varsfontein, Third Runway made it two wins from just three starts when she scored a courageous head win over promising Master Of My Fate daughter Driving Miss Daisy.

Out of the Black Minnaloushe mare Outrage, Third Runway (who had romped home a 4.25 length win second time out) was a R200 000 buy from the 2018 National Yearling Sale.

Third Runway is the second daughter of Gimmethegreenlight to win the Irridescence Stakes following Rose In Bloom (who later won the G3 Prix du Cap) back in 2017.

The filly is one of an impressive 17 two-year-old winners for Gimmethegreenlight this season thus far, with others including Listed Gatecrasher Stakes victor Kaydens Pride, Listed Somerset 1200 second Captain Tatters and Listed Tattersalls Summer Juvenile Stakes runner up Emerald Band.

Winner of the 2012 G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, Gimmethegreenlight has enjoyed a tremendous season in 2018-2019 already with his notable performers including the graded stakes winners National Park, Barahin, Rose In Bloom and La Bella Mia.

South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2015-2016, Gimmethegreenlight has nine lots on this week’s KZN Yearling Sale, which takes place at the Sibaya Casino on Thursday and Friday.
