Langerman success for What A Winter

30th Jun 2019

Drakenstein Stud’s prominent and increasingly successful sire What A Winter had another big pay-day when his promising son Snow Report won the G3 Langerman at Kenilworth on Saturday afternoon.
Trained by Candice Bass-Robinson, the Limestone Thoroughbred Trust bred two-year-old made it win number two from just four starts when he captured the R200 000 by a head from favourite and impressive debut winner Silver Operator.

The What A Winter colt, who was ridden to victory by Bernard Fayd’Herbe, had been fifth (to another What A Winter colt) in the G3 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery last time out and prior to that had shed his maiden impressively when romping home to a 4.25 length score over 1400m.

Out of the Qui Danzig mare Snug As A Bug, Snow Report (whose granddam, like What A Winter, was sired by champion sire Western Winter) was a R400 000 buy from the 2018 April Yearling Sale.

He is one of 15 two-year-old winners for his four time G1 winning sire this season, with What A Winter also sire of unbeaten G3 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery winner Armando and Cape Nursery third place-getter Three Two Charlie.

Armando

What A Winter has been responsible for graded stakes winners in each of his first three crops, and his progeny have won the last three runnings of the G3 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery.

Also responsible for this season’s G1 winning 3yo filly Clouds Unfold, What A Winter has ten lots on this week’s KZN Yearling Sale, including a half-brother (Lot 81) to smart 3yo Cedar Man, a colt (Lot 152) whose dam is a winning daughter of SA Oaks winner Noble Destiny,  a filly (Lot 187) from the family of Equus Champion Yorker, and a three-parts sister (Lot 263) to the smart stakes performer Leeuloop Jet.
