South Africa’s reigning champion sire Gimmethegreenlight has had another outstanding season in 2023-2024, and one of his flagbearers this season was crowned Horse Of The Season at the Highveld Feature Season Awards ceremony, which took place at The Galleria on Saturday night.
Not only was Gimme A Nother crowned Highveld’s Horse Of The Season on Saturday, but the unbeaten filly was also crowned Champion-Three-Year-Old Filly. Destined to continue her career overseas, the Mike de Kock-trained Gimme A Nother won all seven starts in 2023-2024, with her five graded stakes wins this season including convincing wins in both the G1 TAB Empress Club Stakes and G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic.
Bred and owned by Mauritzfontein, Gimme A Nother, out of the Tiger Ridge mare Nother Russia, has earned R2 525 000 in stakes and she looks destined for further award honours later this year.
Her outstanding sire Gimmethegreenlight, once again leading South Africa’s General Sires List, has been responsible for ten stakes winners in 2023-2024, with his stakes winners picking up 17 black-type races between them.
Gimmethegreenlight, whose two-year-olds this season include the graded stakes winners Just Reckless and Proceed, enjoyed more racetrack success on Saturday with a pair of Gimmethegreenlight sired two-year-olds scoring at Turffontein. His son Halcyon showed plenty of determination when he won the first race at Turffontein on Saturday, with Halcyon’s paternal half-sister VJ’s Angel romping home to a six-and-a-half length victory on the same card.
The son of More Than Ready has a single lot on offer at the upcoming Cape Racing Winter Yearling Sale and four lots on offer at the KZN Yearling Sale.
