Gimmethegreenlight filly wins on debut

16th June 2022

Varsfontein Stud’s champion resident sire Gimmethegreenlight continues to churn out a series of impressive two-year-old winners.

Gimmethegreenlight’s latest juvenile to catch the eye was the Khaya Stables bred and owned filly Gimmeafirst.

The latter made a stunning, winning debut at Kenilworth on Wednesday, when Gimmeafirst produced a fine turn of foot to win the third race, the In2Assets Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) over 1200 metres.

Under Keagan De Melo, the Dean Kannemeyer trained filly powered home to catch the front running Betty Boop and win, going away, by a length and a quarter.

Out of the Captain Al mare Captain’s Corner, Gimmeafirst is bred on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Captain Al cross as G1 winner Gunner.

Gimmeafirst is the 14th two-year-old winner this season for Gimmethegreenlight, along with the likes of G3 Cape Racing Cape Of Good Hope Nursery runner up Wecangoallnight and debut winners Gimme A Shot and Iconic Destination.

Gimmeafirst was one of two winners for her sire at Kenilworth on Wednesday, with Gimmethegreenlight’s Ridgemont Highlands bred son Silent War victorious in Wednesday’s sixth race.

South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2020-2021, Gimmethegreenlight has been represented by nine individual stakes winners this season thus far.
