Varsfontein Stud’s champion resident sire Gimmethegreenlight claimed top spot on the Leading Sires List by Aggregate at the 2022 National Yearling Sale.
The former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner enjoyed a fantastic sale, with all 37 of Gimmethegreenlight yearlings on sale selling for a gross total of R26.02 million.

Gimmethegreenlight yearlings averaged an impressive R703 243 at this year’s National Sale, with the son of More Than Ready responsible for nine yearlings who made R1 000 000 or more.

His top priced yearling at the National Sale this year was Steadfast (Lot 378), a colt consigned by Varsfontein Stud who was sold to Greg Bortz for R2 000 000. A half-brother to graded stakes winners Due Diligence and Ghaalla, Steadfast is bred on similar lines to the Gimmethegreenlight sired stakes winners Favorita and Hack Green.

Gimmethegreenlight’s top filly sold at the 2022 National Sale was a filly (Lot 274) consigned by Klawervlei Stud who was sold to Lammerskraal Stud for R1 000 000. A full-sister to the 2021 National Sale topper, the filly is out of the Captain Al sired champion, and triple G1 winner, All Is Secret.

South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2020-2021, Gimmethegreenlight is having another fine season in 2021-2022 with the son of More Than Ready’s current flagbearers including eight black type winners.
