Mauritzfontein’s resident sire Ideal World has enjoyed a good run of success this season and his son Hermoso Mundo picked up his second graded feature when awarded victory in the G3 SABC Gold Vase, run at Greyville last Saturday.
The Weiho Marwing trained Hermoso Mundo ran on strongly under jockey Karl Zechner to finish a strong finishing second to Captain Splendid in the R500 000 feature, but the winner was demoted to second, ensuring the Mauritzfontein bred Hermoso Mundo was awarded the 2017 Gold Vase.
Now a four time winner, Hermoso Mundo (who is likely to be aimed at the G2 Gold Cup next) took his earnings to R1 159 475 with Saturday’s success.
The four-year-old was landing his second consecutive graded feature, having previously landed the G3 Gold Bowl by five and a quarter lengths and, no doubt, a bold showing in the Gold Cup would give Hermoso Mundo strong claims for Equus glory as champion stayer.
Ideal World has enjoyed a spate of feature race success of late, thanks to Hermoso Mundo as well as G3 Track And Ball Oaks winner Zante and Louisiana –winner of the Listed Scarlet Lady and a good fifth in Saturday’s G1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes.
Sire of champion Smart Call, who competed in Sunday’s G1 Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh, Ideal World has been represented by the earners of more than R7.3 million (NHA stats) this season.
His close relative, Mirage Dancer, ran third in the recent G3 Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot and looks a progressive sort in the making.
