Drakenstein Stud’s champion sire Trippi, whose dual G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winning son Jet Dark finished a game second in Saturday’s G1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met, enjoyed notable success as a broodmare sire on Saturday.

Not only is Trippi’s maternal grandson Liam’s Map the sire of Saturday’s repeat G1 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational Stakes presented by Baccarat winner Colonel Liam, but Liam’s Map’s half-brother Not This Time is the sire of Saturday’s G2 Inside Information Stakes winner Just One Time.
Five-year-old Colonel Liam, who was returning from a near eight month layoff, advanced three deep around the far turn in Saturday’s G1 race and then took the lead nearing the eighth pole. The gray horse drew clear under Ortiz’s steady left-handed urging to win by a length at the expense of pacesetting stablemate Never Surprised.

Winning trainer Todd Pletcher said of the win, “You just hope you’ve done enough with him. He has talent.We needed everything to go exactly as planned. We didn’t have time for a prep race. We put all of our chips in this race. I’m glad it worked out.”

One of four G1 winners for his sire Liam’s Map, Colonel Liam has now won seven of ten starts for earnings of in excess of $1.8 million.

Liam’s Map’s promising half-brother Not This Time also enjoyed graded stakes success on Saturday -with Not This Time filly Just One Time capturing the G2 Inside Information Stakes, run, like the Pegasus World Cup Turf, at Gulfstream Park. Four-year-old Just One Time, winning her first graded race on Saturday, has now won five of just six starts.
Liam’s Map (by Unbridled’s Song), whose six wins from eight starts included scores in both the G1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile and G1 Woodward Stakes, and G3 Iroquois Stakes hero Not This Time (by Giant’s Causeway) are both sons of Trippi’s top-class daughter Miss Macy Sue. The latter, dam of four stakes winners, won 11 times including the G3 Winning Colors Stakes.

Also broodmare sire of South African champion Gabor, Trippi has six lots on offer at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale next weekend, including a colt (Lot 10) out of a stakes placed daughter of Captain Al, a colt (Lot 129) out of SA Oaks runner up Salutation, and a half-sister (Lot 180) to eye catching debut winner Cleaver Greene.
