Graded stakes treble for Vercingetorix

5th July 2026

Maine Chance Farms’ champion sire Vercingetorix had a remarkable day at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.
Not only did Vercingetorix daughters Quickstepgal and Double Grand Slam finish 1-3 in Saturday’s G1Ridgemont Garden Province Stakes (1600m) but another daughter Palace Of Arvernia won the same day’s G2 Amusnet Golden Slipper (1400m).
Vercingetorix is also the sire of Magic Verse, who won Saturday’s G3 Magical Zulu Kingdom Campanajo 2200 (2200m).

Star three-year-old Quickstepgal claimed the fourth graded race of her career when she won Saturday’s Garden Province Stakes.
Under Keagan De Melo, the Tienie Prinsloo trained filly hit the front 200m from home and she kept finding strongly to hold off 2025 Garden Province runner up Mon Petit Cherie and win by just over a length and a quarter.
Winner of both this season’s G1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas and G2 HKJC World Pool Tibouchina Stakes, the remarkably consistent Quickstepgal has won or been placed in 12 of just 13 starts.
Bred by Greenacres Trust, the three-year-old is owned by the Wernars Family and Harry Willson.
Quickstepgal, who is out of the Jet Master mare Victoriana, is bred on the same cross as graded stakes winners African Warrior and Rascallion among others.
The 2026 Garden Province Stakes winner was a R450 000 buy from the 2024 KZN Yearling Sale.

Vercingetorix daughters have now won the last two runnings of the Garden Province Stakes, with Double Grand Slam having triumphed in 2025.

The champion son of Silvano looks to have another top-class filly to his name in the form of Palace Of Arvernia.
A full-sister to this season’s G1 HKJC World Pool SA Classic winner Grand Empire, that Dean Kannemeyer trained two-year-old showed her class with an impressive display in the Golden Slipper.
Under log-leading jockey Craig Zackey, Palace Of Arvernia overcame a wide trip to storm home and win Saturday’s G2 contest comfortably by over a length.

Bred by Al Adiyaat, Palace Of Arvernia, a winner of two of three starts, races for Messrs Irvine and Moor.
Palace Of Arvernia, who is out of the Potala Palace mare Palace Of Dreams, looks set for G1 company next.

Vercingetorix’s other graded stakes win on Saturday came courtesy of his son Magic Verse.
The latter made amends for a third place finish in the same race last year when he won Saturday’s Magical Zulu Kingdom Campanajo 2200m in fine fashion.
Under a great ride from Zac Lloyd, the Justin Snaith trained gelding stormed home to claim his biggest win to date by nearly a length and a half.

Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Magic Verse is owned by Greg and Gina Bortz in partnership with Leon Ellman.
Out of the G1 winning Jet Master mare Little Miss Magic, Magic Verse is bred on the same Vercingetorix/Jet Master cross as the aforementioned Quickstepgal!
