Gimmethegreenlight’s three-year-old son Captainofthegreen got his sire off the mark on Sunday when victorious in Greyville’s fourth race, while another Gimmethegreenlight colt, the blue blooded Wiccan Warrior, ran out a game winner of the seventh race on the card.
Making just his second career start on Sunday, the Gareth Van Zyl trained Captainofthegreen caught the eye when coming with a late rattle to land the Follow In The Box Seat Podcast Maiden Plate (1400m) by just over three-parts of a length.
Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Captainofthegreen is out of the Windrush mare Madame Rooney. The Gimmethegreenlight colt was a R550 000 buy from the 2021 CTS Ready To Run Sale.
Gimmethegreenlight’s second success at Greyville on Sunday came when his son Wiccan Warrior landed the Greyville Convention Centre MR 78 Handicap over 1400 metres. Under Warren Kennedy, the three-year-old colt made it two wins from just three starts when prevailing in a tight finish to score by a head.
The race was a fine one for Gimmethegreenlight, whose son Ralph The Rascal ran a close third to Wiccan Warrior.
Bred by Klawervlei Stud, the Gareth Van Zyl trained Wiccan Warrior, who had a wide draw to overcome on Sunday, was a R375 000 buy from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.
Out of the Jet Master mare Pagan Dance, Wiccan Warrior is a half-brother to dual G1 winner, and Equus Champion, Edict Of Nantes.
South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2020-2021, Gimmethegreenlight had another fine season in 2021-2022 when responsible for 12 black type winners who captured 14 stakes races. The son of More Than Ready is runner up on the General Sires List for the current South African racing season.
