The Alchemy’s well performed stallion Gitano Hernando had a notable update to his female line, when his half-brother Galactic Spirit won at Wolverhampton on Monday.
The lightly raced three-year-old colt, making just his second racecourse outing, was dispatched a 13-8 shot for a novice stakes over 1900m and he duly obliged.

Trained, like Gitano Hernando, by Marco Botti, Galactic Spirit (by Dutch Art) hit the front with a furlong to go and stayed on smartly to break his maiden by 1.5 at the expense of the regally bred Natch.
Galactic Spirit had been second on his only other appearance.
He is the ninth winner produced by Perugino’s high class daughter Gino’s Spirits. The latter won nine races, headed by the G3 Noble Damsel Handicap, and was second in the G2 (now G1) Sun Chariot Stakes.
Gino’s Spirits’ best son, however, is undoubtedly Gitano Hernando. The latter, who is from the same male line as Champion South African Sire Silvano, earned over £1.2 million during a career which saw the globetrotting Gitano Hernando win both the G1 Goodwood Stakes and G1 Singapore Airlines International Cup.
Gitano Hernando, whose first crop includes Oaks winning filly Whose That Girl, has been in good of form late.
His recent winners include Desert Lark and Tanami, while Gitano Hernando son Steel Rose (third in the G3 Politician Stakes) was a game fourth in the G1 Investec Cape Derby, where he accounted for G1 Forus Cape Guineas winner Tap O’ Noth.
Gitano Hernando has three lots on offer at this month’s Cape Yearling Sale.
