Klawervlei Stud’s inform sire Pomodoro enjoyed more feature race success at Turffontein on Saturday when his talented son Cirillo landed the G2 Betting World Hawaii Stakes (1400m) impressively.

Under apprentice Luke Ferraris, the four-year-old Cirillo (a member of Pomodoro’s first crop) went out to make the running in Saturday’s R350 000 feature and kicked clear in the closing stages to score by three and a half lengths over stablemate Tierra Del Fuego.

In the process, the Riverton Stud bred colt accounted for such notable graded stakes winners as Zouaves, Barahin, and Van Halen, as well as the highly vaunted Buffalo Bill Cody.
The Sean Tarry trained Cirillo, who was produced by the Lake Coniston mare Miss Wordsworth, took his earnings to over R5 000 000 with Saturday’s G2 success.

While Saturday marked Cirillo’s first graded race triumph, the colt had previously tasted big race success when victorious in both the 2018 CTS Ready To Run Stakes and 2019 The CTS 1200. (Cirillo’s previous efforts including runner up finishes in the both the 2019 G1 H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes and 2019 G1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge.

His July winning sire Pomodoro, South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire in 2017-2018, is also the sire of Secretariat Stakes winner Leopold, who caught the eye when finishing fourth in Saturday’s G1 SA Classic.
