7th March 2020

Varsfontein Stud’s red hot resident sire Gimmethegreenlight has enjoyed another fantastic season in 2019-2020 thus far, and the former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner’s great run of success continued at Turffontein on Saturday.

The Gimmethegreenlight filly Lady Of Steel became her sire’s 22nd stakes winner when she romped to a facile two and a quarter length win in the G3 Racing. It’s A Rush Acacia Handicap (1600m) on Saturday afternoon.
Bred by the Lammerskraal Stud, the Johan Janse Van Vuuren trained three-year-old took her record to four wins from as many starts with her fluent win in Saturday’s R200 000 contest.

The filly is very closely related to the Gimmethegreenlight sired G3 Cape Summer Stayers/G3 Chairman’s Cup winner Gimme One Night.

The unbeaten Lady Of Steel, a R700 000 buy from the 2018 Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale, is the stakes winner for Gimmethegreenlight this season, with the son of More Than Ready also responsible for G2 Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile winner Barahin, G2 Western Cape Fillies Championship heroine Third Runway, Furphy Plate hero Yulong Prince (aka Surcharge), and G3 Sea Cottage Stakes winner Green Laser.

At the time of writing, Gimmethegreenlight’s progeny had banked in excess of R6.6 million this season.

South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2015-2016, Gimmethegreenlight is currently the sire of nearly 50 black type horses, with his notable progeny including Equus Champion Got The Greenlight, G1 winners Gunner and Surcharge, and Guineas winners Gimme Six and National Park.
