Ascot Stud’s well performed young stallion Heavenly Blue is starting to fire, with the son of Snitzel having recently supplied two very eye catching winners.
On Friday, Heavenly Blue filly Amazing Colours (her sire’s only runner on the day) got off the mark when she won the Welcome To Nelson Mandela Bay Open Maiden (F&M) over 1400m at Fairview.
Trained by Sharon Kotzen, the three-year-old showed tremendous heart when staying on gamely to hold off runner up Burn Baby Burn and score by a neck.
Bred by Ben Botha, the consistent Amazing Colours had finished second in six of her seven starts prior to her maiden win.
Amazing Colours is out of the Black Minnaloushe mare Valminaloushe.
The following day saw Heavenly Blue colt Zinovi make a big impression when he romped home to claim the Bidvest Progress Plate (1450m) at Turffontein by four and three-quarter lengths.
Trained, like his sire, by Mike de Kock, Zinovi pulled clear and drew off to win as he liked in Saturday’s contest.
Bred by the Danika Stud, Zinovi, his sire’s very first winner, has now won twice from eight starts and he looks to have a promising future ahead of him.
Zinovi, who is out of the Jallad mare Zayna, was a R200 000 buy from the 2022 National Yearling Sale.
To date, Heavenly Blue has been responsible for 13 first crop runners, of which six have won and two others have finished in the money. No doubt, this tally will rise in coming months!
By the same sire as proven G1 stallions Shamus Award, Russian Revolution and Trapeze Artist, the Snitzel sired Heavenly Blue has five lots on offer at the 2023 November Two Year Old Sale.
