What A Winter gelding Hard Winter provided his sire with his first success on Tuesday when he claimed the first race on the card.
Under Louis Mxothwa, three-year-old Hard Winter came with a late rattle to claim Tuesday’s Hollywoodbets Durbanville Welcomes You Open Maiden (1250m) by nearly half a length.

Trained by Brett Crawford, Hard Winter was making his fifth career start on Tuesday.

Bred by Shadwell Stud, Hard Winter is out of the Hard Spun mare Estidraaj.

What A Winter is also responsible for Winter Pearl, who ran out a ready winner of the eighth race at Durbanville on Tuesday.
The Ricky Maingard trained Winter Pearl stormed home under Richard Fourie to win the Follow Cape Racing On Social Media Class 5 (1250m) by a length and three quarters.

Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Winter Pearl has now won three times, with the gelding victorious in two of his last four starts.

Out of the Al Mufti mare Arabian Pearl, Winter Pearl is bred on the same What A Winter/Al Mufti cross as G2 winner Magical Wonderland.
