Mauritzfontein’s increasingly successful stallion Ideal World hails from one of the hottest families in the stud book and the son of Kingmambo received yet another handsome update to his female line at Doncaster last Friday.
Sangarius, a colt from the first crop of champion Kingman, made it two wins from as many starts when romping home to land the Listed Weatherbys Global Stallions App Flying Scot Stakes over seven furlongs in the style of a colt going places. (Unfortunately the race was marred by a starting stalls incident which claimed the life of Commanding Officer.)
Dispatched the 11-10 favourite, the Sir Michael Stoute trained colt put two and a quarter lengths between himself and runner up Dubai Dominion.
Sangarius, a half-brother to the G3 placed filly Emergent, is out of the Empire Maker mare Trojan Queen –a winning half-sister not only to Ideal World himself but to G1 Prix Jean Romanet heroine Romantica. His second dam is multiple champion and G1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf winner Banks Hill, a full-sister to, among others, outstanding sire Dansili and the G1 winners Champs Elysees (sire of 2018 1000 Guineas winner Billesdon Brook), Cacique, and Intercontinental.
Sangarius holds entries in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket on October 13 and the newly-named Vertem Futurity Trophy – formerly the Racing Post Trophy – back at Doncaster on October 27.
His close relative Ideal World, whose Oaks placed daughter Royal Utopia scored her third win at Turffontein on Saturday, enjoyed a magnificent season in 2017-2018 with his representatives including unbeaten rising star Rainbow Bridge, Listed Kenilworth Fillies Nursery/Irridescence Stakes winner Coral Bay, Gold Cup runner up Hermoso Mundo and G3 Strelitzia Stakes winner Inverroche.
The sire’s previous stars include Equus Champion and British G3 winner Smart Call, now retired to stud.
