Supporter, whose granddam Hasili also rates as the granddam of Mauritzfontein’s successful sire Ideal World, proved a big attraction on Wednesday’s session of the Tattersalls December Mare Sale.
A three-year-old daughter of Dubawi, the unraced Supporter (Lot 2200) was knocked down to Roger Varian, on behalf of Nurlan Bizakov’s Hesmonds Stud, for the joint session topping amount of 400,000 guineas.
“Nurlan Bizakov is building a strong band of broodmares,” said Varian. “He’s had a good year and has some nice fillies in training, but he’s always looking to add strong blood to the farm and she fits perfectly.”
Consigned by Juddmonte Farms, Supporter is a half-sister to G1 Irish St Leger third Weekender and is out of Very Good News –a daughter of Empire Maker and Hasili.
The latter, whose four wins included the Listed Prix des Sablonnets, produced five individual G1 winners, including the Breeders’ Cup winners Banks Hill (dam of Ideal World and G1 winner Romantica) and Intercontinental, and the G2 winning champion sire Dansili.
A son of Kingmambo, the Prix Pelleas winning Ideal World has enjoyed consistent success since retiring to Mauritzfontein.
His early crops have produced the likes of champions Smart Call and Hermoso Mundo, while Ideal World’s current standout is the unbeaten four-year-old Rainbow Bridge –a leading contender for Saturday’s G2 Green Point Stakes at Kenilworth.
