Varsfontein Stud’s bang in-form stallion Gimmethegreenlight was represented by a smart looking debut winner at Kenilworth on Saturday.

His two-year-old son Crown Guardian made a winning debut for trainer Glen Kotzen and jockey Corne Orffer when prevailing in a thrilling finish to Saturday’s second race.
The colt dug down deep to best the regally bred, and more experienced, Shadowing by a head in a ding-dong finish to a maiden juvenile plate over 1000 metres.
Bred by Moutonshoek, Crown Guardian was produced by the Jallad mare Jewel In Her Crown.
The fourth juvenile winner for his G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winning sire this season, Crown Guardian was a R60 000 purchase from the 2017 Cape Yearling Sale.
Another 2yo by Gimmethegreenlight to catch the eye on Saturday was Mixed Signals, who made a pleasing debut when runner up over 1200 metres.

Gimmethegreenlight, who shares his outstanding sire More Than Ready with five Breeders’ Cup winners, is enjoying another top class season this year.
The sire’s other notable offspring include the talented sophomores Surcharge and Green Top, runner up in the G1 SA Classic and G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic respectively.
Gimmethegreenlight, whose stakes winning daughter Queen Forever ran second in Friday’s Listed East Cape Oaks, has an outstanding draft at this week’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
His 21 strong draft includes a full-brother to G2 winner Hack Green (Lot 27), a full-brother to millionaire Surcharge (Lot124), a filly out of champion Night Diva (Lot 218), and a full-sister to the above mentioned Crown Guardian (Lot 446).
