Impressive debut winner for Pathfork

21st January 2019

Irish Champion Pathfork, whose half-brother War Of Will ranks as a potential contender for the 2019 Kentucky Derby, enjoyed another memorable weekend, with his offspring scoring at both Turffontein and Scottsville.

War Of Will

Pathfork’s double was highlighted by an impressive debut win from his son Sacred Journey. The latter, one of three winners on the day for trainer Dennis Drier, powered home from off the pace to get up and shed his maiden by 0.4 of a length over 1200 metres at Scottsville on Sunday.

The 3yo gelding Sacred Journey, who is inbred to Sadler’s Wells –like Pathfork’s high class son Red Chesnut Road, was a R500 000 buy from the 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

Pathfork also enjoyed success at Turffontein a day earlier, when his daughter Jet Start captured an MR 92 handicap on Saturday for trainer Ormond Ferraris and the latter’s grandson Luke. Out of the Jet Master mare Jet Mark, Jet Start has now won four –with three of her wins coming at her last six outings.
Saturday’s win pushed Jet Start’s earnings to over R350 000, with the filly having now won or placed in nine of her 15 races.

The sire of high class stakes horses Mighty High, My Friend Lee, Red Chesnut Road, Madame Speaker, Precious Pansy, Turbo, Harlan County and Desolate Road, Pathfork has three lots on Wednesday’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
