The Drakenstein Stud based multiple Equus Champion What A Winter is enjoying another excellent season with his 2yos and, at the time of writing, ranks as South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs (by stakes).

The four time G1 winning What A Winter was represented by another juvenile winner when his promising son Agent Murphy justified 1-3 favouritism at Scottsville on Sunday.
Runner up at his previous start, the Alyson Wright trained colt got off the mark at his second official start when landing a maiden juvenile plate over 1000m by a neck.

Bred by the Ascot Stud, Agent Murphy (who is bred on the same What A Winter/Al Mufti cross as brilliant filly Magical Wonderland) was a R200 000 buy from the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

Her sire What A Winter (South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2016-2017) is no stranger to siring high class juveniles, with his past 2yo standouts including the graded stakes winners Dutch Philip, and Clouds Unfold, as well as the multiple stakes winner Magical Wonderland and G1 performer Warrior’s Rest.

What A Winter has had seven 2yo runners (three winners) this season thus far –with all seven having either won or placed.
The champion has two runners in the Listed Tattersalls Summer Juvenile Stakes at Kenilworth this Saturday.
